Itel is part of the XII edition of the Trento Festival of Economics, concerning the theme: “Unequal health”.<\/p>\n

Together with the National Institute for Nuclear Physics and TIFPA (Trento institute for fundamental physics and application), the company is protagonist of a conference dedicated to proton therapy, an avant-garde model for the treatment of tumors.<\/p>\n

The summit will be a three-way dialogue, accompanied by the projection of short documentaries and video-scenography, to discover the unpredictable path that led to the development of technologies which, by exploiting the physics of accelerators, have brought today extraordinary progresses in cancer therapy. Such as protontherapy, the treatment of tumors with proton beams, recently included in the Essential Levels of Assistance (Lea) that is available in Italy only in Trento and Pavia. Its efficacy for many cancers, including solid pediatric tumors, is undoubted. Its cost-effectiveness is the subject of the meeting, which will be attended by Maurizio Amichetti, director of the Trento Proton Therapy Operational Unit; Vincenzo Dimiccoli, general manager of Itel telecommunications since 2014; and Marco Durante, director of Tifpa and proton therapy expert. Elisabetta Curzel, scientific journalist (RAI and Corriere della Sera) will present.<\/p>\n

The experience gained in Trento demonstrates how the economic evaluation of protontherapy cannot be separated from the analysis of the relationship that the latter has with conventional radiation therapy, also in terms of quality of life for patients and former patients. An important contribution to the increasingly agile and economic application of this effective therapy really comes from Erha (Enhanced radiotherapy with hadron), an Itel industrial research project, in which the INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics) participates. It is a clinical system with low economic, structural and management impact.<\/p>\n
